In 1982 I bought a 1970 GTO with a 455 CI, muncie 4 speed and posi-trac rear end. The car was tripe black. Up to that point I was strickly a Chevelle fan. Anything between 1968 thru 1972 and I had restore two Chevelles. Well the day that I test drive that 70 GTO with my beautiful friend I was hooked for life. Over the next several years I did an off frame restoration from the inside of a single car garage. In 1987 events would lead me to sell my dream car. Two weeks later the buyer wrapped it around a telephone pole.

From 1987 thru 2006 I would search for another GTO...not just any GTO would do for me. It had to be a 1968, 1969 or 1970 GTO black exterior and interior with a 4 speed. Over the years I would look at many GTO cars but none of them captured my heart. When my brother Robert passed in March 2007 I decided that life was too short to wait to do something I love doing...restoring cars. To take my mother's mind off of her grief and mine too I started taking her out to look at muscle cars. I knew I wanted a GTO but a nice 1970 thru 1972 Chevelle SS would be nice too. We had a lot of fun looking and saw a lot of nice cars but nothing to stop me in my tracks. I was also doing internet searches for a muscle car.

One night I found a black 1969 GTO but it was way out of this retired Army soldiers pay range. It was at an exotic car dealership on consignment. The next day I picked up mom and we drove an hour to the dealership. At first I looked at many cars to include other muscle cars on consignment. Had a blast just browsing until I walked onto their show floor. Sitting with a group of cars was the 1969 black GTO. It stopped me in my tracks and it was mine!! It took several weeks to finally get to an agreed price with the seller and I finally drove her home.

Over the past five years I have completely rewired the car, rebuilt the transmission and engine. The engine was built by Dave at SD Performance. The 400 CI was bored and stroked to 468 CI with 511 horse power and 581 foot torque at the axles. This winter I am updating the headlights, putting a posi-trac in and starting to restore the trunk.

It is a continuing work of love.
