This year marks the 160th anniversary of the Studebaker brand name although the automotive manufacturing division closed way back in 1966. Despite the fact that Studebaker has not created a vehicle in almost 50 years the current owners of the Studebaker marquee (Arvada, Colorado) are attempting to revive the brand through a “Six Step Studebaker Plan”. The six step plan begins with the creation of a scooter which would be similar to that of a Yamaha or Honda style scooter and culminates with step six which is the company going public and offering stock options. Anytime we have had a tragedy in the history of our world there has always been some unscrupulous people who are there to take advantage of the situation for their own benefit. Such is the case right now that car buyers across America will need to be on HIGH alert for flood damaged vehicles. With hurricane Irene having drenched much of the east coast this past summer there are sure to be many flood damaged cars entering the market. While some flood damage is ok and can be repaired sometimes the car was better off going to a salvage yard and getting some of the minimally damaged parts off of it before being crushed. This past weekend I spent some time with family in Chicago and while looking at a photo of my Aunt and Uncle I noticed a very strange looking car in the background so I had to ask "what is that"? My Uncle Kevin quickly chimed in "that was our very first Saab, it was a 3 cylinder, 2 stroke car", "we had to add oil to the gas tank after we filled up gas" he also said it was all of 40 horse power which by today’s standards is less than most small motorcycles produce. Now being a huge fan of dirt bikes I felt like I knew all about 2 stroke engines but was having a hard time imagining this tiny Saab running on premix and all that goes into owning, operating and maintaining a 2 stroke car.
