This is my project 1989 Ford Mustang LX. Was bought originally about 10 years ago as a little 4 banger Mustang for my wife to drive around. Wife decided she didn't want to drive a 5 speed so she told me to do whatever I wanted with the car. So I did!
First step was to rip the 4 cyl out of the car. Picked up a used 302 from a friend and started rebuilding it. I stripped the block down to nothing and cleaned it up. Replaced every seal and bearing on the engine and started putting it all back together with ARP bolts and fasteners. Bought a new Edelbrock Performer RPM bumpstick and lifters, Holly 4160 4bbl, Weiand Stealth Intake manifold, March pulleys, timing set, Ford high output oil pump, Summit Racing shorty headers, Summit Racing distributor (repackaged Mallory), MSD 6AL ignition, Blaster 2 coil, etc. After it all showed up I spent about a week or two putting it all together.
Had a few minor mishaps while getting everything running.
Installed the distributor 180 degrees off and took me a few min to figure out why it was running rich on 4 cyl...lol
Completely forgot to replace the oil seals on the valves in the head so even though it runs great it smokes like a chimney... lol
Backed it out of the garage and forgot to hook up the vacuum feed for the brake booster... that was kinda scary.
After it was running it was time to start the other upgrades. Ford Racing "C" springs, subframe connectors, new 15" wheels and Cooper Cobra tires, Harwood 'glass hood with 3" scoop, etc. A few months ago I got some new heads and got those put on. Still have more work to do so will update this as I go. Next up on the to do list is to get a 8.8" rear in this and get the 7.5" out before it grenades and to get the T-5 tranny out and get a new heavy duty T-5 slid in there.
